The DRS operates through the retail network: the consumer returns eligible packaging at an RVM or manual point, and the system sends it on for sorting and recycling.

Operational flow

Four simple steps, one controlled loop

The process is designed as a retail experience: fast for the consumer, clear for the retailer and traceable for the system.

Purchase

The eligible product is sold with the deposit shown separately.

Storage

The packaging remains empty, intact and with a readable label.

Return

The customer returns the packaging at an RVM or manual point.

Sorting

Packaging is counted, sorted and prepared for recycling.

What every participant needs to know

The system works when consumers, retailers and producers follow the same rules.

Consumers

You return eligible packaging and get the deposit back. No receipt is needed if the packaging is recognised by the system.

  • Keep the packaging intact
  • Do not remove the label
  • Return at any participating point
